Superposing UML class diagrams

چکیده

There is a close connection between superposition-based design and aspect-orientation [6, 7, 10]. In [11] three steps were identi ed when composing modules describing overlapping concerns: matching units describing the same concepts, reconciliation of their possible di erences, and integration of the units. These problems, as well as many concerning distribution, have already been studied in the context of superposition. A superposition step maps a speci cation into a new, augmented speci cation which is a renement of the original speci cation. The step describes cross-cutting concerns with respect to the module structure of the original speci cation. Moreover, in general, superposition steps are reusable design modules not speci c to some particular design. The original speci cation itself can be constructed using superposition. This leads to a speci cation process which is started with a superposition step mapping an empty speci cation to an initial speci cation. Subsequent steps may re ne the same speci cation to di erent augmented ones, resulting in separate branches of the speci cation. The branches correspond to di erent overlapping concerns, or aspects. This results in an aspect-oriented speci cation architecture comprised of the aspects built from superposition steps. The process can be formalized and composition of speci cation branches can be automated. However, the level of automation is governed by the rules of the superposition, i.e. how the mapping is restricted. The restrictions also dictate what properties of the original speci cation are preserved in the re ned one. Earlier work on superposition has focused on

On the complexities of consistency checking for restricted UML class diagrams

Automatic debugging of UML class diagrams helps in the visual specification of software systems because users cannot detect errors in logical consistency easily. This paper focuses on tractable consistency checking of UML class diagrams. We accurately identify inconsistencies in these diagrams by translating them into first-order predicate logic generalized by counting quantifiers and classify ...

System Model Semantics of Class Diagrams

Defining semantics for UML is a difficult task. Disagreements in the meaning of UML constructs as well as the size of UML are major obstacles. In this report, we describe our approach to define the semantics for UML. Semantics is defined denotationally as a mapping into our semantics domain called the system model [4, 5, 6]. We demonstrate our approach by defining the semantics for a comprehens...

A Model Driven Approach for the Atomated Analysis of UML Class Diagrams

The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is widely considered as the defacto standard for the design of Object Oriented systems. UML class diagrams are used to depict the static structure of a system with its entities and the relationships between them. The Object Constraint Language (OCL) is a textual language based on first-order logic and can be used to define constraints on the elements of class...

Design of Rules for Transforming UML Sequence Diagrams into Java code

UML is a modeling language that most developers employed during design phase. UML provides various types of diagrams used for specifying both the structure and the behavior of systems. During the development process, models specified by these diagrams are eventually transformed into corresponding code. Although there are many researches studied about transforming UML models into code, they disc...

Equivalence Rules for UML Class Diagrams

UML is a complex language with many modeling features. Especially the modeling of static structures with class diagrams is supported by a rich set of description primitives. We show how to transfrom UML class diagrams involving cardinality constraints, qualifiers, association classes, aggregations, compositions, and generalizations into equivalent UML class diagrams employing only n-ary associa...

UML Class Diagrams - State of the Art in Layout Techniques

Even if the standard for specifying software, the Unified Modeling Language, is known in different versions to everybody, CASE tool vendors did not implement all basic features. Even with class diagrams, many features of the standard are ignored. Applying the layout algorithms of these CASE tools to the user defined diagrams, usually horrible results are produced, because state-of-the-art techn...
